I am an applied climatologist who teaches climatology, meteorology, and physical geography. My research interests are on both the physical and human sides of geography as I relate the atmosphere to the physical landscape and people.
I am the State Geographer of Oklahoma and am proud to be one of the founders and on the steering committee of the Oklahoma automated Mesonetwork, a series of 115 stations reporting every 5 minutes: http://okmesonet.ocs.ou.edu. Currently, colleagues at the University of Oklahoma and I were working on wind power grants through the Oklahoma Department of Commerce and the U.S. Department of Energy.
My wife, Barbara, teaches math at Northern Oklahoma College, a community college in Stillwater. Our son, John, is a senior at OSU after having done 6 years in electronics in the Navy. Bam, the dog, is part Labrador and part bear and wants to be a lap dog despite his ample girth. My hobbies are reading, keeping the house and yard in shape, and bad golf.
The photo is one of my favorites. My wife and I were lucky enough to stay in this Austrian village for a week. Rough duty!
